African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA)
The AfCFTA aims to cut tariffs on most goods traded between African countries. Egypt, Tunisia, Algeria and Morocco have ratified it, while Sudan and Libya have signed but not ratified; preferences apply only where tariff schedules are in effect, so coverage is still partial.
What you get
- Step-by-step tariff cuts
Each country cuts duties under its provisional schedule of tariff concessions. Egypt is already trading under the AfCFTA; applicable rates are published in the AfCFTA e-Tariff Book.

Egypt and Tunisia take part in the Guided Trade Initiative, the pilot for the first shipments traded under AfCFTA preferences.

Exceptions
- Sudan and Libya not yet parties
Sudan and Libya signed the agreement but had not ratified it or submitted tariff offers as of the July 2025 progress report, so AfCFTA preferences do not apply to their trade.
